Do Japanese kimonos have the belts sewn on?

Do Japanese kimonos typically have the belts sewn onto the back on the kimono, or are the belts usually separate pieces altogether? I'm examining a men's kimono that has the belt sewn on and I am skeptical of the kimono's authenticity. Thanks.
